Addressee(s) | Jerónimo Pinto |
In English | Request letter from Jorge Moreira, an ecclesiastical prior, to Jerónimo Pinto, a bailiff of the Inquisition of Coimbra. The author asks the addressee to stop the Coimbra Inquisitors from acting before they listen to him. Jorge Moreira, a ecclesiastical doctor and prior, presented himself to the Inquisition and confessed having been a sodomite with his servants on a distant past,13 years before, for a period of more than 8 years. In fact, he had problems in justice with them because of a debt, so apparently he feared that they would denounce him anyway. He was found guilty and given a light penitence, but he would have to live apart from his current servant. He told the Inquisition that he was his natural son, but the suspicion that they were both sodomites made the Inquisitors give him this sentence. |
