Addressee(s) | Anacleto José Coutinho |
In English | Private letter from Gertrudes Ferreira to Anacleto José Coutinho, owner. The author makes new requirements to her former landlord. Anacleto José Coutinho, newly arrived from Brazil, was the landlord of Gertrudes Ferreira and her son, Manuel Joaquim Ferreira de Oliveira, and accused them of not wanting to leave the house that he had rented them, of threatening him, and of calling him the "spotted". Although mother and son owed 124,800 reis to the landlord, he ended up giving them 15 coins for them to leave him in peace. Both letters included in the process prove the demands made by Gertrudes Ferreira. «Mister Anacleto. Please, send today, without fail, that thing you know. I’m well aware that you are at home and not out, as the Lady says. If you fail to send me that thing today, don’t complain afterwards, because I’m already at your house, with you. Beware, you will spend what you don’t even imagine! Send the answer by the holder. I don’t want to wait until Saturday. You are always conspiring with your fellow, the one you know.
