Author(s) | Alonso de Yébenes |

Addressee(s) | Pedro Delgado |
In English | Private letter from Alonso de Yébenes, captive in Algiers, to Pedro Delgado, canon priest of Orgaz. The author tells the recipient about his captive condition, and asks him to help his mother in her efforts to release him from jail. Sebastián Carpio and Maria de Yébenes, as the closest relatives of Alonso de Yébenes, a prisoner in Algiers, presented themselves before the justice of Orgaz to proceed with the partition and sale of goods that were left by the now deceased Francisca Lopez, Alonso's mother. The goal of this effort was to gather the money to pay for the ransom of Alonso de Yébenes. They thus handed in two letters written by Alonso as a demonstration of his captive status. |
