Luís Inocêncio Miller, a servant, and his aunt, Joana Joaquina Guedes, were arrested for their involvement on the theft of a ring and two earrings belonging to the mother of the servant's master, D. Maria da Paz. He was found guilty and sentenced to exile in Miranda, Northeastern Portugal.
