In English | Letter from Juan de Peñaranda to his brother-in-law Juan de la Fuente, soldier. The author informs Juan de la Fuente about the health of some members of their family and asks him to remember his wife. The defendant of this process was Juan de la Fuente, a soldier from Los Santos de Maimona (Badajoz). He was accused of the crime of bigamy for having contracted two marriages: firstly, he had married Elvira Sánchez de Peñaranda in Los Santos de Maimona, and later he had married Catalina Álvarez de Espinosa in Texcoco (Mexico). In order to get married the second time, he presented two witnesses who claimed that he was single. The author of the letter is the brother of his first wife. The defendant died of sickness in the Royal Court Prison. |
