[1735-1736]. Carta de Eusebia Morante para su marido Simón Pérez Cahamaño (Gachupín), cigarrero.

Author(s) Eusebia Morante
Addressee(s) Simón Pérez Cahamaño
In English

Letter from Eusebia Morante to her husband Simón Pérez Cahamaño (Gachupín), cigar maker.

The author writes her husband, Simón Pérez Cahamaño, telling him how much she misses him.

The defendant of this process was Simón Pérez Cahamaño, a cigar maker from Santiago de Compostela (Galicia) who lived in Mexico City. He was accused of the crime of bigamy for having contracted two marriages: in 1730 he had married Eusebia Morante, with whom he had a son, in Cádiz, and in 1734 he had married Micaela del Rosal in Mexico City. The letter transcribed here was handed over by Juan Antonio Frutos, a friend of the family of Eusebia Morante.

Although the letter is not dated, we know from the proceedings that the letter arrived in Mexico with the fleet of 1736, so it must have been written between 1735 and 1736.

If there is no translation for the letter itself, you may copy the text (while using the view 'Standardization') and paste it to an automatic translator of your choice.
