Author(s) | Inês Batista |
---|---|
Addressee(s) | Jorge Pinto |
In English | Family letter from Inês Batista to her son, Jorge Pinto. The author makes several recommendations to her son, and complains that he does not follow her advice. The defendant in this process is Jorge Pinto, scribe of the king's galleys, accused of bigamy by the Inquisition of Lisbon. According to several testimonies, Jorge Pinto married Catarina Lourenço when his galleys spent some time in Tavira. According to another group of witnesses, he married Isabel Ferreira when he later returned to Lisbon. Before the Inquisition, the defendant always said that his marriage to Catarina Lourenço was never consummated. This is something, however, that the letters included in the process deny. |
