Author(s) | António das Chagas |
---|---|
Addressee(s) | António Ribeiro de Abreu |
In English | Request letter from a priest, friar António das Chagas, to an Inquisitor of Coimbra, probably António Ribeiro de Abreu. The author asks for advice on how to deal with a woman who told him in Confession that she had a treat with the devil. A servant in the place of Felgueiras, in Northern Portugal, was accused of making a pact with the Devil. The witnesses who testified against her believed that she appeared to them in the company of a well dressed young man (the Devil in disguise). Later, they would forget all about it and only remember through the Catholic confession and communion. They believed to have been enchanted, made invisible and forgetful while they would have illicit sexual intercourse with other people. |
