In English | Letter from Francisco Herrero to doctor Hernando de Zamora. The author informs Hernando de Zamora, Elvira Martel´s attorney, of the news regarding Catalina de Sepúlveda´s case, which are favourable to her in her litigation against Alonso Ortiz. In 1543 Elvira Martel brought a lawsuit against Alonso Ortiz for the tutoring of her granddaughter, Catalina de Sepúlveda, a minor. The girl was María Martel and Pedro de Sepúlveda´s daughter, however, once her mother passed away she was under her stepfather´s guardianship: Alonso Ortiz. After the latter arranged an engagement for Catalina with a stableman, whose status was far below the girl´s, Elvira Martel claimed the tutorship of her granddaughter. The Court ruled in her favour and forbid the girl from getting married until she was of age. |
