Letter from Agustín de Almarza, a presbyter and a secretary, to Lorenzo José Fernández de León.

Agustín de Almarza informs Lorenzo José Fernández de León of his inquiries regarding Gertrudis Crespo and the whereabouts of the girl named Inés.

In 1785 Lorenzo José Fernández de León contacted the bishop of Barcelona by letter for him to find out about several points contained in certain testamentary document received from an anonymous testator from Caracas. The wish of the aforementioned testator was to leave part of his inheritance to Gertrudis Crespo, a widow resident in Barcelona; and to a girl named Inés who had been given to a foundlings´ hospital of Barcelona in the 1750s. Despite the fact that the information they had was not much, several parish priests from Barcelona and their neighbours provided the information they had regarding the foundling. The connexion between Inés and Isidro, the farmer who fostered the girl, was the most difficult to determine. It was possible to connect the abandoned girl named María Inés with Baudilio Ollé. By stringing the pieces of information, it was deduced that the biological parents were Juan Ventura and Eulalia Puigventós and that Inés had married to a man named Juan Padró. The information was sent to Caracas, however, it remains unknown if the testator´s will was fulfilled.

Mui sor mio: en vista de la estimada de U de 10 de Marzo del año proximo pasado he practicado gustoso las diligencias correspontes pa la sigilosa averiguacion de los tres particulares, qe contiene el papel adjunto, qe debuelvo; y por lo respectivo al 1o he sabido qe Da Gertrudis Crespo viuda tuvo en su Matrimonio un Hijo, y dos Hijas. El Hijo llamado Dn Andres Roca, es capitan, y sirve en Napoles. Una Hija llamada Da Ma teresa caso en Zaragoza con Dn H. Armengol Medico la otra hija llamada Da y ambos se fueron hace seis años a Napoles en compa acompañada de dha Da Gertrudis, y de la otra hija de esta, soltera, llamada Da Catalina.

en orden a los particulares 2o y 3o de dho papel, haviendose reconocido individualmte el Libro del Hospital de Niños expositos de esta Ciudad desde el año de 1750 hasta el de 1754 ambos inclusive no se ha hallado Niña llamada Ynes dada a criar a alguno llamo Ysidro consta si qe Ynes Maria Teresa exposita se Bautizo en 3 de Febrero de 1750 q la qual se dio a criar a Josef Prats veco del lugar de Sarria y murio en 21 de Nove de 1751 y tambien consta qe Maria Ynes Antonia, exposita, bautizada en 7 de Septe de 1751 se dio a criar a Baudilio Olle, Veco de del lugar de Viladecans distante dos leguas de esta ciudad, esta vive y esta casada con Juan Padro, vecino del lugar de Sn Vicente de los Huertos, distante tres leguas de esta Ciudad; tiene entendido q ser su Padre un tal Juan, tambien exposito de dho Hospital, y su Madre Eulalia Puigventos, qe caso con un labrador vicino de dho Lugar de sn Vicente de los Huertos que es quanto he podido averiguar en el asunto.

Con este motivo me ofrezco gustoso a las ordenes de U para qto sea de su maior agrado y ruego a Nro Sor Barzna 8 de Abril de 1786 Sor dr Dn Lorenzo Josef Frndz de Leon.
