Addressee(s) | Natária da Cruz Vieira |
In English | Family letter from Gertrudes Margarida to her niece Natária da Cruz Vieira. The author gives the addressee some news from her family and shares with her the most recent town gossip. Raimundo Henriques da Silva was arrested in 1829, accused of having robbed a large sum of money from the Royal treasury on the Christmas Eve of 1827. He confessed that he was able to live for a year and a half on such income, without having to work. He was caught because his own necklace of beads was found on the roof of the robbed Palace and because there was also an eyewitness. His family correspondence was ceased with him, that’s why his proceedings have women letters. He died in the jail infirmary one year after his arrest. |
