In English | Confession letter from Jorge Moreira, an ecclesiastical prior, to the Inquisitors of Coimbra. The author admits the practice of sodomy with two servants of him. He also confesses that he has raised a natural son in his house. Jorge Moreira, a ecclesiastical doctor and prior, presented himself to the Inquisition and confessed having been a sodomite with his servants on a distant past,13 years before, for a period of more than 8 years. In fact, he had problems in justice with them because of a debt, so apparently he feared that they would denounce him anyway. He was found guilty and given a light penitence, but he would have to live apart from his current servant. He told the Inquisition that he was his natural son, but the suspicion that they were both sodomites made the Inquisitors give him this sentence. |
