In English | Letter from António José Pereira to a member of the Inquisition of Lisbon. The author explains his blasphemies and excuses himself. António Pereira de Sousa was arrested by the Inquisition for the crime of blasphemy. The defendant recognized that he was naturally choleric, especially under the influence of the moons because he suffered from some injures in his head. He also recognized that he had blasphemed against God because a brother in law of his, a priest, used to persecute him. He was set free after being admonished and only had to pay 100 «cruzados». |
