In English

Anonymous letter sent to Isidoro de Encarnação Queirós, a judge.

The author points the name and the whereabouts of the man who assaulted the addressee.

The judge Isidoro de Encarnação Queirós was the victim of an assault to his house. While he and his housekeeper, the widow Teresa Joaquina, as well as his goddaughter, Maria de Jesus, who was under 15, were dining at home, three men entered the house with the help of their accomplice, the judge's servant, Tomás José, a Spanish from the Asturias. The victims were menaced with knives and a dagger and the judge was robbed of 150 coins and a silver watch. The housekeeper went to the window and cried for help, but the burglars had already fled when the police arrived. Nevertheless they were identified and caught some days later.
