1692. Carta de Juan de San Ramón, mercenario descalzo, para Francisco Velasco, cubero.

Author(s) Juan de San Ramón
Addressee(s) Francisco de Velasco
In English

Letter from Juan de San Ramón, a discalced friar of the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy, to Francisco de Velasco, a cooper.

The author complains about the fact that the addressee, a friend of his, did not inform him that he was going away. He reminds the addressee the duty this has in Utiel, and tells him to go back to that town, because otherwise he would be considered a coward.

In 1694, Francisco de Velasco was accused of bigamy, and was eventually found guilty. While he was arrested, he admitted to be the addressee of a letter sent by his second wife, María de Moya, with whom he had got married in 1692. He claimed that he thought that his first wife María de la Cruz, which he had married in Udalla (where he was borne), was dead, and so he got married again.
