In English | Denunciation letter from Brás Folgado Raposo, a chaplain, to Jorge Martins, a canon who was also an Inquisition secretary. The author denounces a vicar who works with him, a man who has so good connections that his heresies have never harmed him. The author is so intimidated by such connections that he asks the addressee to destroy the letter in case no persecution will take place. The Inquisition archives contain, apart from the around 40 thousand individual proceedings ("processos"), a collection of scattered charges, for which the Inquisition "Promotor" had to decide whether or not to prosecute. Complaints, confessions, letters by the commissioners or about different stages of each proceedings are some of the document types that can be found in these books. This letter, accompanied by a list of witnesses and a list of accusations of heresy, has been kept among such documentation. |
