In English | Encouragement letter from Bartolomeu Murteira to Sister Margarida Baptista, Mother Superior in a Convent. The author encourages the addressee to proceed with a selection of an organ player different from his daughter. In 1728 the Convent of Santa Clara in Évora started the selection process for a new organ player. Two aspiring nuns, Teresa de Jesus e Maria and Maria Teresa, presented themselves to the position, but the favourite one, Maria Teresa, decided to step out in the middle of the process. The remaining candidate had to pass a practical examination which seems to have been very demanding. The one who gave up the position went later to a different Convent, that of Santa Catarina de Sena, also in Évora. |
