In English

Family letter from José de Matos Fonseca, a tailor, to his brother Gaspar de Matos Fonseca, a brandy producer.

The author tells his brother and extended family that he remarried, although their father was against the arrangement.

José de Matos Fonseca was a tailor from Évora who married first with a woman in Castile and then with a woman in Lisbon, although his first wife was still alive. His brother was the one who denounced him to the Inquisition. The defendant was exiled in Brazil for five years.
