Unsigned letter from Bartolomé José de Ocampo y Mata, the bishop of Plasencia, to José Durán de Hinojal

The author informs José Durán of some matters regarding the bishopric, specifically of the cereal sale and the news about the nun´s convent.

In 1704, José Gregorio de Rojas, the new bishop of Plasencia, sued the executor of the former bishop´s properties. He wanted him to bear the costs from the reparations of the bishopric´s houses and palaces. Several buildings from the Episcopal dignity located in Plasencia, Béjar, Piornal and Jaraicejo; were in a dilapidated condition. These problems were not new, in 1692 a similar lawsuit had been lodged and it was rendered void. A thorough examination was commissioned by the new bishop in order to determine the state of the different palaces and houses, as well as the former bishop´s management for all these matters. In the inquiry carried out regarding Jaraicejo´s buildings, one of the witnesses, José Durán Hinojal, presented several letters which proved the deceased bishop´s attempts to do the essential repairs.

Dize q se va perdiendo lo demas: Vm me hara mrd de reconocerlo y conferir a como se puede Vender a luego o fiado o al sacar si ay Panaderas?

Diga Vm a Pedro de Salas esta mui bien Vendido el zentteno de esta cosecha a diez y siete Rs

Y q la zevada si se Vendiese a pobres o hombres de bien estaria mui bien a trece Rs pero q a Mesoneros es solo entregarla a revendedores y escrupulo para el Obpo; pero si no hubiere otra forma puede Venderse; y perdone Vm este enfado y le ge Dios mus as como deseo Plasa y Mzo 16 de 1703

No he savido, ni de el convto se me ha avisado de si sano la Novicia o murio q es mucho no lo ayan escritto segun son de escritoras y yo me holgare mucho q viva y q aprenda; pero la Abba nos la entremetio callando lo Parienta.
