In English | Report letter from Luís de Aguiar Ribeiro, a judge, to non.identified addressee, belonging to the Inquisition of Évora. The author tells the addressee that he has had two men arrested, the husband and the father of a woman that was to be interrogated by the Inquisition. In the proceedings against Isabel Mendes, this letter that was sent by a judge explains how the New-Christians in Beja used to hide their relatives from the Inquisition. They have holes in the walls between the houses and an alarm system that allowed for everyone to hide everyone else. |
