In English | Letter from Damián Martínez to his father Pedro de Madrid, a trader. The author informs Pedro de Madrid about the details of his life in the Indies, insisting in his financial situation and the projects to improve it. In 1546 Catalina Ortiz sued Pedro de Madrid for withholding 50 ducats that had been sent to her from her husband´s inheritance from the Indies. Jorge de Rivera had passed away two years before and after paying the debts he left, Damián Martínez sent the rest (50 ducats) to the widow and her sons. Pedro de Madrid, a trader, was supposed to hand the money, however, once in Spain, he did not give it to the widow and stated it was his. Catalina Ortiz presented several letters proving her husband´s will. Likewise, several witnesses were inquired, although they could not assure if the money Pedro de Madrid brought from the Indies was his or Catalina´s. |
