1681. Carta de Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, conde de la Corzana, para Antonio de Urbina.

Author(s) Diego Hurtado de Mendoza
Addressee(s) Antonio de Urbina
In English

Letter from Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, count of Corzana, to Antonio de Urbina.

The author urges Antonio de Urbina to comply with the petition he has made and send the money requested.

In 1705 María Josefa de Urbina Eguiluz claimed before the Council the payment of certain amount of money from the counts of Corzana. She had issued a previous claim in 1702 before the ordinary courts of Vitoria. She was María Francisca de Urbina´s mother and proxy and she acted on her behalf, as her husband had been a royal secretary and her daughter was his heir. The amount she was claiming was 4000 reals and apparently she had proof of it through three notes addressed to Francisco de Urbina from the count of Corzana on June the 7th, July the 6th and August the 5th of 1681. Apart from that amount, she also claimed eight doubloons borrowed to the countess of Corzana as shown in a letter from the countess herself. However, the information that appears in the file does not correspond with the documentation presented. As a matter of fact, the count´s lawyer did not recognized the documents as being written by Diego Hurtado and underlined the inconsistency in the dates (June the 27 and July the 6th, in the notes attributed to the count), as well as its expiration due to the date they were written. An annotation on the margin reads as follows: "I sent her eight doubloons on that same day".

In this letter there is an annotation on the margin pointing the following information out: "I sent the two thousand reals requested by the count in this note on the same day”.
