Addressee(s) | Isabel de Sousa |
In English | Family letter from Manuel Ferreira da Silva to Isabel de Sousa The author writes expressing his sorrow and distress for knowing that the addressee was expelled from his house; he promises to solve the problem. Isabel de Sousa and Manuel Ferreira da Silva were accused of concubinage in 1748. It was Isabel who handed in the two letters written by Manuel. These were added to the proceedings in June 1750. The correspondence between the two served as evidence that, 14 years earlier Manuel had promised to marry Isabel. She trusted his promise and ended up having several romantic encounters with him, from each resulted seven children, three deceased and four alive. |
