In English | Letter from Andrés de Batres to his wife Luisa Simón de Aragón. The author writes to his wife Luisa Simón de Aragón asking for help, since he is in prison and he is trying to get bailed with the help of his family or his wife’s family. The trial for bigamy occurred between 1643 and 1645 against Jaime de Córdoba, a Saint Jame’s Order Knight. Nevertheless, it ended up being suspended. In the process documentation it was kept information about the null marriage between Jaime de Córdoba and Luisa Simón de Aragón. In these documents there are evidences of both of them being married to other people, however, Andrés Batres got sick and was given final unction. Luisa remarried to Jaime de Córdoba, apparently due to "her lack of will" (fl. 44v). As time went by, some witnesses stated that Andrés was alive. This letter is proof of it, since Andrés sends it after Luisa’s second marriage. The letter was provided as proof by Luisa in the process to void her marriage to Jaime de Córdoba. Jaime left to Valencia, leaving Luisa sick in Madrid. In his letters, Jaime de Córdoba refuses he remarried although Luisa thought he did, to Gertrudis Catalán. |
