In English | Letter from Manuel de Robles, a friar, to his brother-in-law Francisco de la Barrera, a second lieutenant. The author writes to his brother-in-law Francisco de la Barrera sending him several news and asking him to send the attached letter to Tomás López´s widow to inform her about her husband´s death during the war. Tomás López was accused of bigamy and condemned to prison by the Holy Office, although he never served the sentence because he passed away. Firstly, he got married to María de Gracia in Cuenca. From there he migrated to Alcalá la Real (Jaén), where he met María de Pabesa (also known as Mariana de Pabesa), with whom he had a marital life between Alcalá la Rea and Campillo de Arenas (Granada). When the defendant was condemned to prison by the Inquisition, his second wife provided the letter that Manuel de Robles, a religious from the Order of San Juan de Dios, had sent her from Girona to inform her about her husband´s passing away. This letter was delivered by Francisco de la Barrera, Manuel de Robles´ brother-in-law, who was required to testify. He corroborated the letter was from his brother-in-law, but it was a long time since he did not have any news from him. |
