Autor(es) Mariano de Yepes y Soriano
Destinatário(s) Juan Antonio Sánchez
In English

The author explains to Juan Antonio Sánchez about a case of scandalous proposition and asks him for the procedure to report it to the Holy Office.

This process dates from 1803-1804 and it began for scandalous propositions against Aquilino Perales, a lawyer to the Royal Council native to Soria and resident in Novés (Toledo). In this letter, Mariano de Yepes y Soriano, a presbyter from Novés, wrote to Juan Antonio Sánchez, also a presbyter, asking him about the procedure to make a denunciation and bring Aquilino Perales in front of the Holy Office for certain scandalous propositions. The aforementioned propositions were the following ones: that confession was superfluous; that it is enough to confess the sins before God by means of an act of contrition; that a man was not to tell another man about his faults; and that priests should not hear women´s confession, as it could result in solicitation. According to Mariano de Yepes y Soriano, the witnesses of the conversation, in which the respondent defended these ideas, were: a Carmelite religious named Fray Santos García native to Novés; a verger named Andrés Castaño; Juan Francisco de Rozas; and a brother of the latter named Juan, alias "el marino". Eventually, the informer was Juan Antonio Sánchez, who provided Mariano de Yepes y Soriano´s letter to the process documentation.
