The author accuses the priests of Elvas of being liberal, «enlightened» and against the Regeneration Regime.

Father Caetano da Transfiguração, the chaplain of the third Cavalry Regiment of Elvas, was prosecuted for his liberal ideas and for disrespecting the good name of the Royal Family. This letter was among the proof that was used against him.
