[1550]. Carta de Cristóbal de Benavente para Juan de Villalobos.

Autor(es) Cristóbal de Benavente
Destinatário(s) Juan de Villalobos
In English

Letter from Cristóbal de Benavente to Juan de Villalobos.

The author warns Juan de Villalobos of his arrival to Spain, telling him briefly the details of his journey and the problems he had with certain chest containing documentation.

In 1551 Mencía de Carvajal, Juan de Villalobos´ widow, sued Cristóbal de Benavente to the Council of Indies for withholding 250 gold pesos. She alleged her husband had received an account clerkship in Mexico city as a royal favour and that he sold it for 1200 ducats. It was Benavente who collected the money. However, despite he had sent part of the money, the widow claimed the rest and to prove her case, she presented two letters written by Benavente and addressed to her husband in which these facts were mentioned.
