In English | Denunciation letter from Carlos da Rocha Pereira, probably a notary, to the Inquisitors of Coimbra.. The author writes down what cooper and his wife, who could not write, wanted to denounce: they had heard another cooper saying that a wooden image of a crucified Christ that he possessed was too lively, so he would cut it with his grubber in order to obtain a more realistic effect. The Inquisition archives contain, apart from the around 40 thousand individual proceedings ("processos"), a collection of scattered charges, for which the Inquisition "Promotor" had to decide whether or not to prosecute. Complaints, confessions, letters by the commissioners or about different stages of each proceedings are some of the document types that can be found in these books. This letter has been kept among such documentation. |
