Letter from António Pinto da Costa, a priest, to Bernardo Carneiro de Figueiredo, a canon and a commissary of the Inquisition.

The author informs the addressee that a woman that was sentenced to exile by the Inquisition was informed of her punishment at her home because she couldn't walk. He also asks for mercy towards her.

The Inquisition proceedings against Catarina João, a woman of 60 with an illness in her feet, were opened because she was accused of feigning visions and revelations. Her priest was a friend and he interceded on her behalf.
