Destinatário(s) | Francisca López |
In English | Family letter from Alonso de Yébenes, captive in Algiers, to Francisca López, his mother. The author tells his mother how he has fallen captive in Algiers, and asks her to do her best to gather the money for his ransom. The rapidity in these negotiations is essential, as his master, of Turkish origin, is about to leave Algiers bound for Constantinople. Sebastián Carpio and Maria de Yébenes, as the closest relatives of Alonso de Yébenes, a prisoner in Algiers, presented themselves before the justice of Orgaz to proceed with the partition and sale of goods that were left by the now deceased Francisca Lopez, Alonso's mother. The goal of this effort was to gather the money to pay for the ransom of Alonso de Yébenes. They thus handed in two letters written by Alonso as a demonstration of his captive status. |
