In English | Testimony letter from Maria da Luz Willoughby da Silveira, the viscountess of Juromenha, to Manuel Monteiro da Fonseca Quaresma, a judge. The author confirms before the addressee that she was indeed robbed of two pocket pistols by a German who had been hired by her to repair the same objects. She calculates that the value is that of three or four 'moedas' (coins). She explains that she didn't report the crime because she wanted no involvement with such man. Two Germans living in Lisbon, known as José Alarde and João Frederico, were arrested for street disorder. The first was being accused by the second, João Frederico, for stealing the pistols of the viscountess of Juromenha, from the palace where João Frederico was also living. João Alarde defended himself stating that he had already returned the pistols. |
