In English | Protest letter from Bernardo de Sá Nogueira, a Cavalry Captain and the future Marquis de Sá da Bandeira, to Coronel Bernardo Correia de Castro e Sepúlveda, a government member. The authors eloquently protests against his arrest because he feels that he had the right to speak freely against the government. The captain Bernardo de Sá Nogueira, who would become a relevant figure in the political landscape of XIXth century Portugal, was arrested when he was 25 years old for his involvement in the military coup that took place in the 11th of November 1820 (the «Martinhada»).
