In English | News letter from friar António das Chagas, a priest, to an Inquisitor of Coimbra, António Ribeiro de Abreu. The author tells the addressee how proud he is of himself because of his achievements in trying to exorcise the devil from a bewitched woman. A servant in the place of Felgueiras, in Northern Portugal, was accused of making a pact with the Devil. The witnesses who testified against her believed that she appeared to them in the company of a well dressed young man (the Devil in disguise). Later, they would forget all about it and only remember through the Catholic confession and communion. They believed to have been enchanted, made invisible and forgetful while they would have illicit sexual intercourse with other people. |
