[1731]. Carta de José Mendes, tendeiro, para o seu sobrinho, Francisco de Almeida, tendeiro.

Autor(es) José Mendes
Destinatário(s) Francisco de Almeida
In English

Family letter from José Mendes, shopkeeper, to his nephew, Francisco de Almeida, shopkeeper.

The author declares his nephew that his aunt Leonor had not contributed to his arrest.

José Mendes wanted to talk personally with his nephew, arrested by the Inquisition, to assure him that his aunt Leonor had nothing to do with his detention. Since Tomás de Oliveira, in charge of the prisoner during his trip from Guarda to the Inquisition of Lisbon, did not allow this personal contact, José Mendes wrote this open letter.

If there is no translation for the letter itself, you may copy the text (while using the view 'Standardization') and paste it to an automatic translator of your choice.
