In English	Family letter from Pedro López de la Cañada, musician, to his uncle. Given the lack of response to his letters, the author reports again that he is being held in jail in Ocaña (Toledo), providing some details about the developments of his process. He also requests that his uncle go see him, together with his brother, so that he can go free. Pedro López de la Cañada, musician, was accused of bigamy by the Inquisition of Toledo: he married a second time when his first wife was still alive. Even before that, he had gotten married to a different woman, but that marriage had been annulled. There was also the suspicion that he might have married another young woman, but this was never confirmed. The letters that he wrote to his family from the jail in Ocaña (Toledo) were intercepted and included in his Inquisition files as a proof of his crimes. In them, he used a code that consisted of replacing all the vowels by the letter "p" - over each false "p" he put one to five horizontal lines, thus signaling the vowel that was meant to be. He was later condemned to an "auto de fe" and to stay out of Toledo for two years. ~~dos cartas e escrito a vamd y no e avido Respuesta~~ y agora e tornado por allar mensajeros ziertos a escrevir a vamd con otras dos cartas aziendo saber a vamd como a dos meses y medio qu estoy preso en esta carzel de ocaña por ziertas acusaziones que me an puesto en esta billa de ziertas quistiones que e avido ~~y en una que me tomo el mesmo juez de Regidenzia se me a llegado a quererme aorcar por ello y por azer una diligenzia que yze no me an castigado~~ ~~la dilijenzia mi ermano la dira a vamd~~ ~~y tras avella echo el mesmo juez no me quiere perdonar anque las partes me an perdonado sino que dize que me a de afrentar~~ ~~y para esta y las otras eme llamado a la corona y estoy por ella y esta para dar sentenzia~~ ~~tengo mucho miedo a segun esta comigo que me a de apelar la sentenzia para Roma o para consejo de ordenes~~ ~~para todo esto soplico a vuestra md que leyda la presente vamd venga luego a Remediarme porque estoy en mucho travajo de mi persona y con grandes prisyones~~ y para librarme es menester la venida de vamd y luego soy livre porque ~~des~~ dos partes q me acusan dineros lo acabaran y mas saliendo por la corona del juez que me acusa mas por su parte es lo que me da pena ~~y esto vamd ponga muy mucha diligenzia en que vamd venga mui vreve para que yo declare~~
