In English | Unsigned letter, written by Sebastián de Alcudia and Mari Plazuela and sent to their son Antonio de Alcudia, shoemaker. The authors write their son, Antonio de Alcudia, to inform him about the latest family news. The defendant of this process was Martín de Alcudia, from Torremilano (Córdoba). He was accused of the crime of bigamy for having contracted two marriages: in 1594 he had married Ana García in Torremilano and later he had married Catalina del Castillo, on a boat heading to Manila (Philippines). The defendant was sentenced to 26 months in prison, although he claimed that before arriving to Manila he had annulled the marriage contracted with Catalina del Castillo and that, moreover, before contracting that marriage his first wife had already died. The process is incomplete. Antonio de Alcudia, addressee of the letter, is the brother of the defendant. Both emigrated to Mexico. |
