1620. Carta de António de Castro Pinto, cirurgião, para Francisco Luís, arcediago.

Autor(es) António de Castro Pinto
Destinatário(s) Francisco Luís
In English

Request letter sent by António de Castro Pinto, a surgeon, to Francisco Luís, a deacon

The author says he regrets his behavior and asks the addressee to punish him in a covert way only, so that his family won't suffer. He blames others for the idea of making fun of the New-Christians by terrifying them with the menace of the Inquisition.

A group of individuals, a surgeon (the author of these letters), a judge, a carter and a farmer persecuted the New-Christians of Argozelo and seized their property disguised as Inquisition officials. The judge defended himself by accusing the surgeon, whose five letters were used by the Inquisition to build a case on him.

If there is no translation for the letter itself, you may copy the text (while using the view 'Standardization') and paste it to an automatic translator of your choice.
