In English | Letter from Diego Librero, a saddler, to his niece-in-law María Ruiz (María de la Puerta). The author informs his niece María Ruiz that her first husband was still alive and that her second husband, Agustín Sanchez; knew about it. This process was opened for bigamy against María Ruiz, alias "María de la Puerta" between 1634 and 1636. She got married for the first time in Zaragoza on June the 9th 1623 to Miguel Gayán "el bailaor" (the dancer); and then remarried in Madrid to Agustín Sánchez, a tiler. The latter, suspecting his wife was already married and willing to be better informed, went to Diego Librero’s house, who lived in Zaragoza and was the defendant’s uncle-in-law. Diego Librero confirmed she was indeed already married to Miguel Gayán, who was still alive. Then Agustín Sánchez asked Diego Librero to write a letter to Isabel Jiménez, the defendant’s mother, which he would personally deliver. The aforementioned letter (PS6130), together with the one addressed to María Ruiz (PS6129) were presented to the process documentation. The defendant was found guilty. |
