Addressee(s) | Manuel do Quintal |
In English | Private letter from Catarina Nunes to Manuel do Quintal, apothecary. The author recommends an acquaintance to an old friend. She also asks him about her late husband's estate. This letter is included in the Inquisition process of Catarina Nunes. She was initially charged and tried for Judaism and went out in "auto de fé" in 1592. Later, in 1594, she wrote this letter to Manuel do Quintal, an apothecary in Coimbra and friend of the defendant and her late husband, Lourenço Rodrigues, a Law student that was now deceased. It was Diogo Pereira, resident in Évora, that asked her to write the letter, but afterwards they had a discussion about the letter's content and Diogo Pereira denounced her again to the Inquisition. She would be free of charge only in 1602. |
