In English | Following an accusation of suspicious conduct, the Prosecutor started a litigation in 1812 against Mariano Benito Zalama, a resident of Mucientes (Valladolid). On June the 24th 1812 José Desio, a subordinate police officer from Valladolid, arrested Benito Zalama at the entrance gates of the bridge for suspicious conduct. After searching his pockets, the following documents were found: a security letter on his name issued by Antonio Nogués, the Police General Commissioner from Valladolid; a pass issued by the General Command from León; and the letter transcribed here, consisting in a notepaper for Vicente López Tormaleo, the surgeon of Valladolid, "regarding a vacant position" (fl. 4r). All these documents were included in the case files. During the questioning Benito Zalama explained he left Valladolid to look for a job in León or elsewhere and that the notepaper he was carrying was handed to him by a sexton in Villanubla (Valladolid). After a month in prison, the defendant was released. |
